Questions, Answered
The things dog owners ask us most. Don't see your question? Ask it on the free consultation form — that's what it's there for.
What kinds of dogs do you train?
Any and all of them. Programs to fit any dog — no matter the age, size, breed, or personality. New puppy, new rescue, or a dog with behavioral problems: each dog gets the specific guidance it needs.
What's your training philosophy?
Respect. Love. Trust. Those are all things a dog needs. Here's the part most owners don't realize: every day you are training your dog, whether you know it or not. When a dog jumps up on people and isn't corrected, he's learning that's accepted. When he sprints out the door the second it opens, he's learning that's encouraged. We change the mindset, and set your dog up for success.
Do you use e-collars?
Yes — and not the way most people use them. Done right, an e-collar is a communication tool, not a punishment: humane and sensitive, worked at the lightest level that gets your dog's attention. Think of it as a tap on the shoulder from across the yard, not a correction to fear. It's how we build clear, reliable communication — and we're glad to show you exactly how it works and answer every question before we start.
How do I get started?
With a free consultation. Tell us about your dog — age, breed, and what's going on — through the contact form, and we'll get back to you with the program that fits. No pressure and no obligation.
Do you offer board & train, boarding, or group classes?
No — and that's deliberate. All training is in-home or one-on-one private sessions. Your dog learns in their real environment instead of a kennel, and you learn right alongside them, so the training holds where it actually matters: your house, your street, your life.
How much does training cost?
One flat rate: $75 per hour for in-home and one-on-one sessions. Your first consultation is free. See the pricing page for details.
Do you work with me, or just my dog?
Both. Our services are designed with you and your pet in mind — we believe in working as much with you, the owner, as with your dog. A trained dog with an untrained owner is only half a result.
My dog is older. Is it too late to train?
No. It's never too late to teach an old dog new tricks — and it's never too late to train your dog. Older dogs learn the same way younger ones do: consistency, clarity, and follow-through.
Where are you located?
Down Boy Down K9 is based in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and in-home sessions happen right at your home. If you're outside the immediate area, ask on the consultation form and we'll let you know.
